Charcot foot causes the most debilitating and devastating foot complications in diabetic patients.Early diagnosis and detailed assessment is paramount for successful management of Charcot’s Arthropathy. Initial assessment involves checking for your diabetic status, sensation in feet and blood supply. Detailed X-rays and other investigations like CT scan, MRI etc are also needed for proper evaluation. In early cases, strict non weight bearing and application of cast or diabetic walker boot is necessary to offload the foot and prevent the deformity from getting worse.
In severe cases or those who develop dislocation in joints or wounds, surgical debridement and complex foot reconstruction isneeded.
